Wounded Warrior – Derek McConnell

I know I haven't updated this blog in a while but I wanted to tell you all about a special project.

Yesterday I found out about a wounded soldier on the Homefront Blog from Operation Write Home. He was stationed in Afghanistan in March 2011 and on July 23rd 2011, he lost both legs due to an IED. You can read more of his story here

OWH asked us to send cards of encouragement to him. So today I made him a card and I plan on mailing it out tomorrow.

This is the card I made.

I wrote this quote in the card, it’s the one I like out of all the ones I found.

“When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you, till it seems as though you could not hang on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn.”  ~Harriet Beecher Stowe

Crafting it forward

Friday I found a great organization via my Etsy Paper team called Operation Write Home.

They get crafters from all across the U.S. to make handmade cards and send them to their shippers who in turn ship them out to deployed heroes, so they have something to write home on.

I just got started yesterday making cards to send out. So far I've got 16. But I plan on making more this week.

If you'd like to know more about this organization please check out their website above. If you're not into making cards you could always write a note thanking our heroes, make a donation or pass along this information to a friend or family member that does make cards.

Thanks for reading and I hope everyone has a good night.
